Manufactured from heat-treated 8740 chrome moly steel, ARP head studs provide increased clamping strength compared with typical factory head fasteners and are well suited for performance engine builds where increased cylinder pressure and engine speed place additional demands on the head gasket and cylinder head fasteners. ARP rates properly processed 8740 chrome moly in approximately the 180,000–210,000 psi tensile-strength range.

8740 Chrome Moly Construction
ARP manufactures these performance head studs from 8740 chrome moly steel.
ARP describes 8740 as a tough alloy steel with good fatigue properties for racing applications when correctly heat-treated and thread-rolled after heat treatment. Depending on processing, ARP states that 8740 chrome moly can achieve tensile strengths of approximately 180,000 to 210,000 psi.
Why Use Head Studs?
Cylinder head sealing becomes increasingly important as compression ratio, boost pressure, cylinder pressure, and engine RPM increase.
A properly installed head stud provides consistent clamping force between the cylinder head, head gasket, and engine block. This makes upgraded head hardware particularly useful in performance B-Series builds where factory hardware may be operating beyond its original design requirements.

Installation
Follow the installation instructions supplied with ARP kit 208-4306.
ARP recommends using the specified assembly lubricant and tightening sequence to achieve proper fastener preload. For application-specific kits, always follow the torque specifications included with the kit rather than relying on ARP's general torque chart.
