The Bosch 12V Changeover Mini Relay is a five-terminal automotive relay designed to switch electrical loads through normally open and normally closed circuits. It is rated for up to 30 amps on the normally open circuit and 20 amps on the normally closed circuit.

This relay can be used as a replacement for compatible Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo relay numbers. Its exact function varies by vehicle and may include fuel-pump, HVAC-blower, accessory-power, lighting, fan, or other electrical circuits.

Fitment

This is a multi-purpose electrical relay rather than a single-vehicle-specific component. Depending on the vehicle and electrical system, compatible versions may be used for:

  • Fuel-pump circuits
  • HVAC blower-motor circuits
  • Accessory-power circuits
  • Lighting circuits
  • Cooling-fan circuits
  • Other 12-volt changeover-relay applications

A matching 12-volt and 30-amp description does not guarantee compatibility. Some visually similar relays use four terminals, different pin arrangements, different internal switching, suppression resistors, diodes, or different current ratings.

Compare the circuit diagram and terminal numbers printed on the original relay with this five-pin changeover configuration before installation. If the original relay contains a diode or resistor, verify whether the replacement requires the same suppression feature.

Recommended Use

Recommended when diagnosis identifies a failed or intermittent compatible relay. Possible relay-related symptoms may include a circuit that does not operate, operates intermittently, remains energized incorrectly, or responds when the relay is tapped or temporarily exchanged with a known-good matching relay.

These symptoms may also be caused by damaged wiring, poor grounds, corroded terminals, a failed switch, excessive circuit current, or a defective electrical component. Diagnose the circuit before replacing the relay.

What’s Included

  • 1 Bosch five-pin 12V changeover mini relay
  • Bosch part number 0986332400

A relay socket, wiring, terminals, fuse, and mounting hardware are not included unless otherwise shown or specified.

Installation

Disconnect the vehicle battery according to the manufacturer’s service procedure before working on the electrical system. Remove the original relay and inspect the socket for heat damage, corrosion, looseness, or pushed-back terminals.

Confirm that terminals 30, 85, 86, 87, and 87a correspond with the vehicle wiring before installing the replacement. Push the relay fully into the correct socket and secure the mounting bracket when required.

Reconnect the battery and test the complete circuit. If the replacement relay becomes excessively hot or fails again, inspect the wiring and connected component for a short circuit, excessive resistance, or an overcurrent condition before installing another relay.

Note

No return on electrical item.
