Symptoms of a Worn CVT Belt

A worn or damaged CVT belt may contribute to:

Slipping during acceleration
Reduced vehicle speed
Delayed clutch engagement
Inconsistent power delivery
Excessive belt dust
Cracking, glazing, fraying, or missing belt material

Before installation:

• Confirm the clutch alignment and condition.
• Clean belt residue and glazing from the clutch sheaves.
• Remove oil, grease, dirt, and debris from the clutch housing.
• Do not contaminate the new belt with oil or solvent.
• Confirm the belt is installed in the correct direction when directional markings are present.

Gates recommends completing a controlled heat-cycle break-in process after installation. Avoid aggressive acceleration, towing, deep mud, or extended high-load operation until the belt has properly seated to the clutch surfaces.

Allow the belt and clutch system to cool completely between the initial heat cycles.
