The Project Kics R40 Lug Nut and Lock Set combines high-strength SCM435 alloy-steel construction with a two-piece floating-seat design for compatible aftermarket wheels. This complete 20-piece set contains 16 standard lug nuts and four locking lug nuts, allowing one lock to be installed on each wheel of a five-lug vehicle.

The floating tapered seat rotates independently from the main lug-nut body as the nut is tightened. This design helps provide consistent clamping while reducing the possibility of scratching, gouging, or twisting against the wheel’s lug seat. The open-end construction also accommodates compatible standard and extended wheel studs.

Features

  • High-strength SCM435 alloy-steel construction
  • Two-piece floating-seat design
  • Floating seat helps reduce scratching and gouging of the wheel
  • Open-end racing-style construction
  • Compatible with standard or extended studs when properly sized
  • Four locking lug nuts provide one wheel lock per wheel
  • Standard lug nuts use a 17 mm hex
  • Black Chrome finish
  • Project Kics part number KRC11K

Fitment

  • Thread size: M12 x 1.50
  • Wheel-seat type: 60-degree tapered or conical seat
  • Configuration: 20-piece set for a four-wheel, five-lug vehicle
  • Wheel type: Compatible aftermarket wheels

M12 x 1.50 is commonly used on many Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, and other vehicles. However, thread pitch alone does not guarantee fitment.

Confirm the wheel-stud thread, lug-seat shape, seating diameter, stud length, lug-hole diameter, and tool clearance before ordering. These lug nuts are not compatible with wheels requiring a ball seat, radius seat, flat seat, mag or shank-style nut, inverted lug nut, or another specialized attachment system.

Many factory wheels use a different seat design even when the vehicle has M12 x 1.50 wheel studs. Do not use these lug nuts on an original factory wheel unless the wheel’s seat specifications have been verified as compatible.

Floating-Seat Design

Each R40 lug nut uses a separate floating seat between the nut body and wheel. As the lug nut is tightened, the seat contacts the wheel without rotating directly against its finished surface in the same manner as a conventional one-piece lug nut.

This construction helps reduce wheel-seat damage and supports consistent clamping when the lug nuts are installed correctly and tightened to the appropriate specification.

Recommended Use

Recommended for street, show, and track vehicles equipped with compatible aftermarket wheels and M12 x 1.50 wheel studs. The open-end construction is especially useful with extended wheel studs, provided the stud does not interfere with the installation tool or locking key.

What’s Included

  • 16 Project Kics R40 standard open-end lug nuts
  • 4 Project Kics R40 locking open-end lug nuts
  • 1 matching wheel-lock key
  • 20 total lug nuts
  • Project Kics part number KRC11K

One lock can be installed on each wheel of a four-wheel, five-lug vehicle. Keep the supplied lock key in a secure and accessible location in the vehicle.

Installation

Verify that the thread pitch and wheel-seat design are correct before installation. Start every lug nut by hand for several complete turns to prevent cross-threading. Make sure the floating seat is correctly positioned against the wheel and that the lug nut does not bottom out on the stud before clamping the wheel.

Tighten the lug nuts gradually in the appropriate crossing pattern using the torque specification supplied by the vehicle or wheel manufacturer. Do not use an impact wrench to start the threads, and avoid excessive impact force that could damage the finish, floating seat, locking key, or wheel.

Recheck the lug-nut torque after the initial driving interval recommended by the wheel manufacturer. Inspect the lug nuts, wheel seats, studs, and locking key periodically for wear or damage.
